SunRun Inc. has been hit with a class action lawsuit alleging the San Francisco-based solar energy company deceived consumers into leasing SunRun solar panels by making misleading claims about their cost savings and about the increasing costs of electricity.

SunRun/Vivint is accused of wide-ranging abuse and deception with its door-to-door sales of solar systems, including the use of “Power Purchase Agreements.”” Via these agreements, consumers pay more and more over a 20 year period for a system they do not own, allowing SunRun/Vivint to steal tax credits. These “agreements” are incredibly unfair and consumers are often tricked into signing them.

There is also documentation of other unfair business practices by SunRun/Vivint, including clouding titles to consumers’ homes. Lawsuits were filed after investigation revealed hundreds of clouded titles and thousands of Vivint customers defrauded in multiple Western states – including California.

SunRun/Vivint is accused of aggressive marketing practices, misleading solar marketing, illegal door-to-door slaes, false claims about energy savings, and installing more solar panels that were needed to completely power a home.
